Sam Angelella, a GE F110 Engine Engineer, is a Warfighter Warrant Officer

A college professor once had more stories to tell than he could ever tell. He used his creativity to become the new Chair of the Department of Electronic Media & Film. He has documentaries, screenplays and production credits to prove it. His story is one of persistence and discipline, but it also reflects the power of community.

The first time Sam Angelella heard a GE F110 engine run, it captured his attention--and imagination. That's because the engine, which powers the F-16C/D fighter jet, is unlike anything else on the planet. It offers the Warfighter more thrust, fuel efficiency and range than previous generations of engines. It can also balance thrust and cooling by varying airflow. That's a lot of innovation in a small package.

GE Aviation is a division within GE that provides aircraft with integrated digital, electric and mechanical systems. It also has a global service network. Angelella will lead GE Aviation's Military Customer Programs from Washington, D.C. His military career spans 30 years, including service as a three-star commanding general of 5th Air Force and U.S. Forces Japan and as vice director of strategic plans and policies on the Joint Staff at the Pentagon.

Ross Angelella is an award-winning teacher, novelist and short story writer. He is the author of the irreverent and twisted coming-of-age debut Zombie (2012), as well as the short story collection Eight Very Bad Nights (2024). His screenplays and stories have won many festival awards. He directs the Jimenez-Porter Writers' House and teaches writing at the University of Maryland College Park and Towson University.
